2011 World Series Preview

Chris Carpenter
The upcoming 2011 World Series should be a good one. The St. Louis Cardinals will have home field advantage so Games 1 and 2 will be played in St. Louis. Games 3, 4, and 5 will be played in Texas. Should we get to a game 6 and/or 7, the finale will be back in St. Louis.

Starting on the mound we have left handed C.J. Wilson VS. right handed Chris Carpenter.

Chris Carpenter has a 2-0 record coming into the World Series. He's pitched 17 innings, allowed 14 hits, 7 earned runs, including 1 home run. He maintained an ERA of 3.71 throughout the post season. Also, there is a report the Carpenter is battling inflammation in his right elbow.

C.J. Wilson, on the other hand, has seen better days. Wilson has a 0-2 record going into the World Series. He's pitched 15.2 innings, 21 hits, allowed 16 runs, 14 runs earned. He has given up 6 home runs. He's maintained an ERA of .318 throughout the post season.

C.J. Wilson
Offensively the Rangers are batting .259 in the post season. The Cards are batting .288 giving the cards the advantage. Both teams tie is stolen bases with 7. The Cards have scored a total of 62 runs with the Rangers have generated 55. The Rangers hit 13 home rums while the Cards hit 10. On paper, it looks like the Cardinals will come away with the win Game 1 especially looking at the pitching category. It's easy to declare a winner on paper, but there have been more times than not where numbers and stats do not predict the winners. Look at the "Dream Team" Philadelphia Eagles...
